Director William Kaufman delivers a solidly entertaining crime thriller with The Channel. Featuring an ensemble cast led by Clayne Crawford and Max Martini, the movie kept me hooked from start to finish.
After their heist goes wrong, the outlaw crew finds themselves in a race for survival with an persistent FBI agent on their tail. Kaufman efficiently ratchets up the tension as they flee New Orleans. Both Crawford and Martini are compelling in their complex, adversarial brother roles.
While the plot isn't especially original, Kaufman executes it well. Gritty location shooting in the Big Easy adds authenticity. The climactic confrontation also delivers some nail-biting sequences. Supporting actors like Michael Thomas offer memorable turns as well.
At just over 90 minutes, the lean runtime flies by. The Channel won't reinvent the genre, but serves as solid entertainment for fans of nail-biting crime fare. Both newer and genre-savvy viewers should find it an engaging watch. Recommended for a thrilling crime flick night-in.
